This was fantastic. I grew up with infrequent visits by my outspoken ‘diesel duke’ aunt (her words) who taught me to throw a baseball and tell a dirty joke. She was my favorite person in the world but I later found out she hid her sexuality and even was married to a man for a time.
Pretty much everyone I know in my age group (GenX) never had a problem with the gays, and many of us have genuine friendships with you wonderful weirdos. Never understood the pearl clutching and hostility UNTIL I experienced the seattle gay pride parade up close and personal. A bit much, fellas, with the full on furry exhibition in front of “mah chillin”…who decided everyone had to out-do their gaybor? Get it, ‘out’-do? Cheeky.
But I digress.
All I’m trying to say is there’s a world of cis heteros that love and support our gay brothers and sisters, despite feeling like the past few years are a bit much.
But I’m a Seattleite, former-liberal so what do I know about the rest of America…
I always thought the ones who should be the most pissed about this utter insanity were the GLB folks. These new idiots are proving the formerly ridiculed “slippery slope” arguments to be right. And it’s only accelerating, because literal pedophiles are now feeling emboldened to demand acceptance under the same umbrella. Based on what’s happened over the past 3-4 years, what criteria do you use to exclude “MAP” from being “accepted”? And you’re right, there is a major backlash brewing, because it’s not enough anymore to just accept, you have to celebrate.
